Verizon HTC Thunderbolt Update Finally Back On; 3G, GPS Fixes

Right at the end of April, Verizon announced a software update for the HTC Thunderbolt on its 4G LTE network would be available shortly, bringing with it several bug-fixes and tweaks, including better 3G connectivity and GPS performance. Everything sounded great, until Verizon abruptly changed its mind and put the update on ice. Last week, a leaked copy of the ROM update arrived, but Verizon still hadn’t show any progress towards releasing the code itself; the Thunderbolt update status page reads “coming soon”. Now, nearly two weeks since the update was first announced, it looks like its going out OTA to Thunderbolt owners.

If you check for updates on your Thunderbolt as of this morning, you should be notified of a 35MB update that’s available. You wouldn’t know it checking out the Thunderbolt support page, the one Verizon instructed its employees to refer Thunderbolt users to if they had questions about the update-gone-missing; it still says the update is coming soon, but there’s no denying that it’s already going out to at least some users. If you don’t see it just yet, check back later on in the day to see if it’s available for you. There hasn’t been any indication so far as to why Verizon delayed the update in the first place, but at least it’s here now.
