RIM Claims BlackBerry OS 7 Browser Tops iPhone, Android
RIM launched the new BlackBerry OS 7 platform yesterday with the occasion of launching the brand new BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 smartphone variants that are bringing the platform refresh to the world. At that time of the presentation, RIM claimed that the browser on BlackBerry OS 7 is able to outperform both Apple’s Safari on iPhone’s iOS and Google’s Android browser.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 was compared in terms of browsing to the iPhone 4, Nexus One and Nexus S and the numbers are rather interesting. RIM claims 1.6 times faster page loading than on BlackBerry OS 6. SunSpider test revealed that the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 scored 2.84 seconds followed by the iPhone 4 at 3.23, the Androids over 5 seconds and the BlackBerry Torch 9800 with over 10 seconds.
BlackBerries weren’t known exactly for their excellent web browsing performance and RIM seems to have addressed that in the 7th iteration of its BlackBerry OS. Google constantly improves its Android features and functionalities and Apple is preparing iOS 5 so this might be a short-term win, if any, at all.
