Infini Dev Team Announces Lima, Web-Based Cydia Alternative

If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, you’re well aware of Cydia, the alternative to Apple’s App Store that lets you access all the apps Apple didn’t want you to have. The Infini Dev Team thinks there might be a better way to get apps out to jailbroken users, announcing its new installer, Lima.

Unlike Cydia’s stand-alone app, Lima will be browsable as a website, letting you install apps directly from your browser. While it wouldn’t be the biggest deal in the world if you had to download and install Lima before using it, eliminating even that minor roadblock could easily encourage users to give Lima a chance for the first time. Considering the popularity of Cydia, that’s going to be an important advantage if Lima is to get a shot.

The team working on Lima have also developed a more traditional app store app called Icy, but the real excitement seems to be around Lima. Though initial previews show a decidedly spartan interface, it could have the potential to blossom into a competitive alternative app store.
