Before and After: HTC Inspire 4G HSUPA Update (Video)

Recently both the Motorola Atrix 4G and the HTC Inspire 4G received an update to enable HSUPA to allow for faster uploads. While this doesn’t mean that the devices will be suddenly capable of 4G-like HSPA+ speeds (which exists in a very limited number of places), you’ll be able to at least get upload speeds that aren’t similar to what you’d experience over EDGE (which is currently the case for some Atrix 4G and Inspire 4G owners). The update came in the form of a quick OTA update that requires you be over WiFi.

In this video, we show you a before and after of the update. The results? Before the test, we were averaging about 1.1mbps down and 300kbps up. After the test, our download speeds jumped to about 3.0mbps, and in the best test, upload speeds jumped to 1.0mbps. So indeed, there is an improvement, but the results aren’t consistent and vary by the app you’re using to test. Also keep in mind that these speeds are still not yet as good as the fastest 3G smartphones on AT&T’s network, but it’s an improvement.
