When it comes to Twitter clients for your Android smartphone, you’re at no shortage of options to choose from, but there’s only one official app for the messaging service. Now Twitter’s updated its app to version 2.0.2, bringing with it a dusting of small changes.

Some of the changes in Twitter for Android 2.0.2 are relegated to the background, where you hopefully never even notice them, like the use of SSL for secure network communication, or better data management to help free up extra space on your smartphone. Better search tools add a tabbed view for results and let you edit your record of saved searches to keep or prevent certain results from popping up over and over.

Then there are new settings in 2.0.2 which you’ll wonder why they weren’t implemented sooner, like the ability to delete tweets after posting them, and basic UI customizations, like setting font size. Others are just handy extras, like a tool for searching for tweets made in the vicinity of a certain point on a map.

Twitter for Android 2.0.2 is available free in the Android Market now.
