CyanogenMod 7 for T-Mobile G2x a Work-In-Progress
T-Mobile’s G2x (known in wider circles as the LG Optimus 2X) may have just arrived, but work is already well underway to bring the wildly popular CyanogenMod 7 custom ROM to the smartphone.
Officially, LG’s been planning to drop Gingerbread on Optimus 2X users this summer, planned for sometime in either June or July. Presumably, T-Mobile users would get their Gingerbread updates shortly thereafter (though there’s no guaranteeing how long a carrier will take dragging its feet before an update gets the thumbs-up). If that wait sounds wholly unappealing to you, CM7 could be just what the doctor ordered.
Despite the similarities, there are enough code differences between the G2x and the Optimus 2X that a lack of G2x source code is holding up progress (though there’s yet to be an official CM7 release for the Optimus 2X either, work has progressed quite a bit farther). Even without everything in place, CM7 is reportedly mostly working on the G2x, with these stragglers affecting device-specific functions.
There’s no ETA for the release, so it’ll be ready when it’s ready. Based on the latest screenshots, though, work so far seems to be coming along quite nicely.
