Skype With Video For Thunderbolt Leaks

Back before the HTC Thunderbolt on Verizon LTE fell victim to so many delays, the plan seemed to be “ship the phone with Skype with video”, and then “get the phone out first, deliver Skype shortly thereafter“. At one point, Skype with video was planned for a February 28 release. That date passed with neither phone nor app appearing. We eventually got the Thunderbolt last month, but Skype seemingly fell by the wayside. Now Thunderbolt owners finally have a chance to see what the big deal about video chat over 4G is, as Skype for Android with video has finally leaked.

Without a Market presence, you’ll have to download and install the APK yourself. Although one would think that the app should be able to support any Android model with a front-facing camera, this version appears limited to compatibility with the Thunderbolt; users tyring the app on other smartphones have reported failure after failure.

Even with a Thunderbolt, some users are reporting trouble getting the app to run; if you fall into that boat, you may just wish to hold off until the app officially hits the Android Market. There’s no ETA on that arrival, but we imagine it should be pretty soon; it’s odd it’s already taken as long as it has just to see this leaked version.
