HTC EVO 4G Gingerbread Update Planned for Q2
Sure, you have your choice of options when it comes to getting the latest Android 2.3 on your HTC EVO 4G, including CyanogenMod 7 with WiMAX support – we’ve even seen Honeycomb forced to run on EVO hardware (albeit not very well at all) – but there’s still no official update available for users who feel more comfortable running their phones on carrier-approved firmware. HTC customer service has recently let slip that Gingerbread for the EVO is currently in the works, with a release likely before the end of Q2 2011.
A user reaching out in an email to HTC for a status update on the Gingerbread possibilities for both the EVO 4G and Thunderbolt heard back this Q2 estimation for both phones, reinforcing the earlier Q2 prediction we had heard for the Thunderbolt. While HTC wasn’t willing to narrow down that scope at the time, the company promises Facebook and Twitter announcements once knows for sure when Gingerbread will be arriving for all devices getting it.
Any guesses on which will arrive first, Gingerbread on the EVO 4G, or the new EVO 3D? We had heard that the EVO 3D may be coming out in June, placing it right up against the end of the Q2 window HTC has provided.
