HP Releases ePrint App for iPhone; Android Coming May 1
Last fall , HP released a BlackBerry app to take advantage of its ePrint service, offering secure printing to locations set up to use the system. Today, the company has announced the expanded availability of ePrint to include an iPhone version of its Enterprise app, and plans are in store to bring the service to Android by the beginning of May.
Smartphone users who use their phones for business are likely to get the most out of ePrint. Part of the allure is that the ePrint Enterprise system empowers companies to let users manage print jobs from their smartphones with a bit more security and control than other systems offer; you can have the printer you send a job to hold off on printing it until you arrive and enter in a short code, generated by your phone. That way, confidential documents don’t sit in the printer’s out tray, waiting for you to arrive.
You can also use ePrint at certain public locations, like FedEx Kinkos stores, if you’re on the road and there’s no company printer nearby to access.
The iPhone ePrint Enterprise app is available now; HP expects the ePrint Android app to arrive on May 1.
