Rumor: T-Mobile G2X Planned For April 15 Release
LG’s Optimus 2X is all but set to make its State-side debut, wearing the facade of the T-Mobile G2X. The Tegra-2-powered smartphone has already been spotted in what we assume is its final retail packaging, suggesting that it’s ready to go as soon as T-Mobile decides to start up sales. So far, the going rumor has been that the G2X would hit retail on April 20, which seemed perfectly reasonable. Perhaps that information was wrong, or T-Mobile’s plans have changed, because today a leaked schedule has surfaced showing the G2X arriving on April 15.
The timetable came into the hands of Android Central thanks to one of its dedicated tipsters, and while it also has some juicy info on tablets and 4G gear, our focus is squarely on the one smartphone included.
The G2X, just like the Optimus 2X, runs dual 1GHz processing cores as part of its Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip. Along with a 4-inch WVGA screen and the ability to record 1080p videos, T-Mobile may have some stiff competition in store for the iPhone and Thunderbolt.
