BlackBerry Monaco / Monza Spotted With Mystery Icons
With the coming revamp of BlackBerry OS with version 7 to integrate parts of QNX, there will only be another year’s worth of phones released running classic versions of the operating system. We now have a new, close-up look at one of them, the BBOS 6.1-running BlackBerry Monaco / Monza, a full-touchscreen model.
The two code names refer to the Verizon edition (Monaco) versus the one with a global GSM radio (Monza). Don’t count on either name sticking around for retail, but it’s unclear at the moment if the phone will fall into an existing line of BlackBerry models or get a new name for itself; the BlackBerry Touch has been suggested as one possibility. We had heard that Monaco might be the Storm 3, but plans may have changed since then.
One interesting thing to note with this look at the smartphone is the blacked-out set of icons near the bottom of the phone’s screen. You can clearly see that three of them have been edited out prior to the photo’s release. What secret aspects of BBOS 6.1 aren’t ready for public release just yet?
Perhaps an explanation is coming next month at BlackBerry World in Orlando, starting May 3. Hopefully then well get a closer look at BBOS 6.1 and maybe learn of the official names for the Monaco / Monza.
