Verizon Drops HTC Incredible Just Before Its First Birthday

It looks like Verizon is cleaning house in anticipation of upcoming smartphone releases, including the Incredible 2/S, by ceasing sales of the original HTC Incredible, just a few weeks shy of it being one year since the phone’s debut.

Over at Verizon’s website, you can see that the Incredible is no longer listed amongst smartphones currently available for sale. That situation may be different in Verizon retail stores, depending on current stock, but we imagine it’s soon to disappear from them as well.

Sure, technology improves, and new models will inevitably replace the old, but we can’t help but feel like this is a bit of a forced departure for the Incredible. After all, the phone’s specs compare favorably against many current Androids, and even some that haven’t yet arrived. The Incredible S stretches the screen from 3.7 inches to 4, and adds a bit more RAM and a global radio, but that’s about it. The original’s supposed to get a Gingerbread upgrade in the coming months, letting it go out on a high note.

According to the Verizon roadmap we looked at earlier today, the Incredible 2 is due to arrive on April 28.
