Best Buy Preparing CinemaNow Android App? (Images)
Best Buy looks to be expanding the scope of it’s CinemaNow movie and TV streaming service to Android and several other mobile platforms, if the concept renders pictured here are to be believed. CinemaNow is powered by Sonic Solutions RoxioNow who announced in August 2010 that it was partnering with Widevine, a DRM provider, to bring streaming to Android, iPad, iPhone, and BlackBerry devices.
Above is the Android app, which is elusively labeled “Brand X” but features Best Buy’s telltale yellow combined with it’s CinemaNow color scheme.
Pictured here is the BlackBerry PlayBook, showing options for streaming and downloading movies and TV, searching the catalog, and adding shows to a wish list for future purchase.
Lastly we have Apple’s iPad, shown with a similar series of options to the PlayBook and Android apps. The iPhone is omitted from the series of images, but presumably would look similar to the iPad app, but scaled down.
CinemaNow currently offers limited online functionality via it’s mobile web portal, but does not offer streaming video. Users are able to browse movies, purchase or rent, and preload movies to an equipped PC.
