Rumor: Gingerbread Ready for Droid X, Arriving Next Week
We saw what purported to be in-development shots of a build of Gingerbread for the Motorola Droid X back at the end of January. Since then, we haven’t comes across any further indications of progress towards a release of the Android update. According to Droid Life, there’s now a rumor that the phone could receive Gingerbread starting this coming Sunday, March 27.
While we’ve been hearing rumors of official Gingerbread updates for plenty of phones, they’ve been slow to materialize. Droid Life cites developer tweets indicating that the Droid X code is indeed complete and ready to go, and that the only things delaying the release any further are the whims of Verizon and Motorola.
OK, that would put Gingerbread for the Droid X up on the horizon, but a release as soon as next week? The site doesn’t identify its source for this particular date target, but suggests that the code would start to go out to some users beginning on Sunday, with the remainder receiving Gingerbread staggered throughout the week.
The Droid X release of Gingerbread would be especially exciting, as it would feature the latest Motoblur UI, adapted for Android 2.3. You can catch a glimpse of it in those January shots, just to tide you over until the proper release.
