Apple Said Bumping Next iPhone Screen to Four Inches
Apple will be increasing the screen size of its flagship iPhone handset to four inches for the product’s next generation, according to a report in Digitimes. The report comes amidst rumors that the company is preparing a second iPhone model whose screen size is smaller and lower resolution than the current
3.7-inch 3.5-inch Retina Display, suggesting that Cupertino is looking to move both downmarket while at the same time competing with the current crop of 4.3-inch (and soon to be 4.5-inch) Android phones. At the time it was released in 2007, the iPhone’s screen size was considered both large and fairly high-resolution; flash forward to 2011, when anything under four inches diagonal is regarded as mid-range.
The next iPhone, presumably called iPhone 5, should debut sometime in early summer, if Apple abides by previous release schedules.
