Apple’s New A5 Processor iPhone-Bound?

The iPad 2, just introduced today by Apple, will feature the new ARM Cortex-A5 CPU, a faster dual-core processor compared to the single-core A4 found in the iPhone 4 and iPad. Could this mean the Cortex-A5 may also be featured in the yet to be announced iPhone 5?

So far, news of the iPhone 5 is scarce, with rumors about an increased screen size of four-inches, and a possible QWERTY keyboard being tossed about.

If the iPhone 5 were to debut with the ARM Cortex-A5 backing it, it would likely boast nearly double the raw speed of the previous generation iPhone 4, while sipping nearly the same amount of power. Both CPUs run at 1GHz, with the A5 cutting power consumption nearly in half vs. the A4, while doubling the number of cores. The graphics performance would also be largely improved, with apple claiming a nine-fold improvement on graphics performance vs. the A4.
