RIM Sued By Mosaid For Alleged Infringement Of Six WiFi Patents

Mosaid, one of the world’s leading intellectual property companies, sued RIM — among 16 other companies like ASUS, Canon, Dell, Intel, Marvel and Atheros — for alleged infringement of six of its WiFi related patents.

The purported patents relate to “network finding and the orthogonal multiplexing used for the faster speeds” in the 802.11n standard. Mosaid asks the companies to pay damages as well as stop selling any products — chipsets, notebooks, phones. In the event of noncompliance, the companies will have to pay royalties to Mosaid. According to Electronista, the lawsuit could go even further and reach companies like Apple and HTC — which were not called in front of the court — but which might also use technologies that allegedly infringe Mosaid’s patents.
