Apple’s Next iPhone To Have NFC Support After All?

A rumor surfaced earlier this week according to which Apple’s next generation iPhone will not support Near Field Communication (NFC) as Cupertino allegedly informed European carriers of the fact. According to today’s rumors on the other hand, the iPhone 5 will indeed support NFC.

An Apple insider friend of an entrepreneur that is working on a “top secret NFC product” is the source of current rumors surfacing. According to these, the next generation iPhone will indeed support the mobile payment technology, despite Apple’s alleged concern generated by “the lack of a clear standard across the industry”. In addition, NFC hardware manufacturers (readers and such) are also expecting the iPhone 5 to support it as they’re prepping for increased traffic to arrive once the device is launched.

Rumors go both ways and there’s really no way in telling which one will turn out to be true. While NFC is a technology in its very early stages — and thus used on a very small scale — it surely is a next generation bit which Apple should include — Google has it on the Nexus S — especially on a product which will aim to gain the crown of mobile devices once launched this summer.
