O2 Expecting Germany to Get HP Veer in May
HP’s Veer is testament to just how much phone you can cram into how tiny a package. While that’s caused some concessions to be made (like an abandonment of traditional jacks in favor of an awkward series of magnetic adapters), the company has ultimately managed to squeeze a smartphone – and one with a QWERTY keyboard at that – into a package with the profile of a credit card. Up until now we’ve only hear “early spring” as for when to expect the webOS device, but now O2 Germany has given us what looks like plausible date for a European release, narrowing things down to sometime in May.
O2’s Albert Feisch tweeted earlier today that German users can expect the next webOS phone to arrive in about two months. We’re still waiting on a timetable for a US release, as well as narrowing down on which carrier the HSPA+ phone will be offered. Feisch didn’t provide any information regarding a possible price.
The Veer may only have a 2.6-inch 320 x 400 screen, but with an 800MHz Snapdragon and 512MB of RAM, we expect it to offer some full-sized smartphone performance. While there’s certainly a place for the 4-inch-plus models, a phone with a screen and keyboard this compact may be just what more petite smartphone users are looking for; the Sidekick 4G may have some new competition for the teen texting market.
