HTC Ignite: Upcoming Windows Phone 7? (Image)
HTC may be preparing its sixth Windows Phone 7 device, codenamed HTC Ignite, according to Chinese site XDA.cn. However, there are several discrepencies in the alleged specs listed for the rumored handset, most notably its supposed use of an 800MHz processor and resistive touch screen — both of which would fall outside of the Chassis 1 requirements as stipulated by Microsoft. The rest of the supposed features, including 3.7-inch WVGA display, 512MB of RAM, and a five-megapixel camera, do fall in line with existing WP7 hardware.
However, before we go dismissing this report as fake, it’s important to note that “HTC Ignite” also shows up as a model on UK etailer King of Gadgets — alongside the HTC Prime, which we saw in Telstra’s internal system earlier today. It’s also possible that the initial source of the image and info didn’t have all the facts straight, or that we’re looking at one of the first Chassis 2 devices (which might explain the processor speed but not the resistive screen).
We’re told to expect the Ignite in “mid-2011,” although its characterization as a “flagship phone” also seems off.
