Amazon Appstore Has Exclusive on Ad-Free Angry Birds, Rio
In a coup for the soon-to-launch Android Marketplace competitor, the Amazon Appstore has been named exclusive distributor for three upcoming Rovio titles, Angry Birds Rio and the paid, ad-free versions of both the original Angry Birds as well as Angry Birds Seasons. No timetable was given on the launch of either the store nor the games, but the former is said to launch later in the month, while Rio will presumably debut alongside the animated movie for which it is a tie-in, around April 15th.
Although details are still a bit scarce, the Amazon Appstore will likely coexist with the Marketplace on Android devices as a standalone app itself, and provide value-added features such as recommendations, statistics, and a simple purchasing method. The ad-free Angry Birds titles, meanwhile, have been in the works for some time, with the primary holdup to release apparently being publisher Rovio’s fear of piracy.
