BlackBerry GSM Q2 Roadmap: Dakota, Apollo, Torch 2
Following a leak of RIM’s CDMA roadmap, we now have some rumored information about their GSM release plans to accompany it.
Three GSM devices are rumored in the roadmap, the BlackBerry Dakota (internally named R005, and nicknamed “Bold Touch”), rumored to be releasing around the end of May or beginning of June. The device is expected to utilize a 2.8-inch 640×480 display, and 768MB RAM with a five-megapixel camera and BlackBerry OS 6.1.
Next is the BlackBerry Apollo (internally R006, nicknamed “Next-gen Curve”), rumored for a July release. The device is expected to have an 800MHz CPU, 480×360 display, five-megapixel camera, and BlackBerry OS 6.1.
Last we have the BlackBerry Torch 2 (internally R040), which is listed as the successor to the BlackBerry Curve 9800 and listed as “under consideration” – if accepted a possible May or early June release is likely. It is rumored to have a 1.2GHz CPU, 480×640 display, 512MB RAM, and five-megapixel camera.
Several devices listed on the CDMA roadmap do not appear to have GSM equivalents listed, and may perhaps be CDMA exclusives. There is also visible text on the Dakota and Apollo images which clearly reads T-Mobile. Combined with the pink background behind the header, this leans towards a possible T-Mobile release.
