Verizon’s HTC Trophy To Be A CDMA/GSM Global Phone

Verizon might be preparing some support pages on its website to welcome the addition of its first Windows Phone 7, the HTC Trophy, but according to an alleged Verizon rep, the phone will not be out until June.

Here’s what we think: if Verizon does not have the Trophy up on shelves by the end of March – beginning of April, there’s really no use in getting it at all. Releasing a smartphone eight months after the platform launch — and nearly four months after the CDMA support update, that is the upcoming NoDo — is way too late for the users, carrier and Microsoft. Hopefully it’s the “R” category this info will stay in!

On the bright side of the story, we knew that the Verizon HTC Trophy will indeed be a CDMA/GSM Global phone since mid-November last year. WPCentral continues to run pictures of the smartphone, this time one that is featuring the Cellular section of Settings. “Your phone will automatically connect to the CDMA or GSM networks specified by your SIM card” is what the text says, right below the Mode selection which is set to Global (we think there are two other options for CDMA and GSM).

All that’s left is the waiting. Windows Phone 7 NoDo should be here in a few days, the Sprint HTC Arrive has already been announced and on pre-order — with a March 20 sale date — and we’re guessing end of Q1 could be the time to watch for the Verizon HTC Trophy (at least we hope, for everyone’s sake).
