3D Contacts App for Android Enters Beta, Brings New Look

Developer AzureNightwalker over at XDA brings us a new 3D replacement for the stock Android contacts application, aptly named “3D contact”. Currently in early beta, the application provides a very fresh look and feel to the contact list on your device.

Rather than displaying your contacts in a sorted list as the stock Android contacts UI does, the 3D contacts app displays each contact’s info in an animated, rotating 3D cube. The user can scroll vertically through the list of cubes, which is alphabetically sorted. The app provides nearly all of the same functionality as the stock contacts UI, including the ability to create, edit, and search for contacts. The background and cube colors are customizable (to a limited set of options) and the scrolling speed can be adjusted.

Because it is still in early beta, the application does have some performance issues at times and some users have reported force closes. The toggle switch to disable 3D rotation currently does not function as well as other small glitches. The developer is actively looking for feedback, bug reports, and suggestions to help improve his program.

The application is available now on the Android Market by searching for “3D contact” or via the XDA link below, and will soon be available on the homepage of the developer.
