iDisplay Turns Your Android into a Second Display

If you’re like me you have your Android sitting right next to your monitor on your desktop. If you’re lucky you have a cradle, if not, you make do. In either case you probably have it plugged in and charging while you’re at your desk.

Why not take advantage of that extra space? That’s what the folks at Shape Services have done with their apps. Compatible with both Android and iOS, Windows and Mac, iDisplay essentially turns your phone or tablet into a secondary display.

The way it works is by installing a desktop app (which is free), and the corresponding mobile app (for around US$5.00). Once that’s done it’s just a matter of configuring your app to talk to your computer over your network, and just like that you’ve got a second monitor.

While the screen-size of a smartphone may be too small to display a spreadsheet or Word document, it could make a good widget dock or photo slide-show. Tablets, on the other hand, may prove to be more useful.
