Sprint Could Get Its First WP7, HTC 7 Pro, By Mid-March
Who better to dish on upcoming Windows Phone 7 developments than a member of the ChevronWP7 team, now Microsoft’s new best friends? Rafael Rivera (the guy with the t-shirt) has tweeted that Sprint will finally be getting a WP7 smartphone of its own by this time next month, hot on the heels of Microsoft’s first update for the operating system.
While we’ve gotten a look at the HTC 7 Pro thanks to its European release, the phone’s yet to come out in the States. We were hoping the handset might show up last week at Sprint’s press event, but had to keep waiting a little while longer.
If this rumor is accurate (and it’s certainly coming from a trustworthy source), Microsoft looks like it was a little overly broad when promising CDMA Windows Phone 7 devices sometime in the first half of the year. While this window would put the release comfortably withing Q1, we’re still waiting to see when Verizon will also be ready to get on board the WP7 train.
Rivera hasn’t provided any update on the phone’s name at Sprint. We’ve heard that it will likely go by the “HTC Arrive”, but Rivera still calls it the 7 Pro. If an early March release really is in the cards, we could hope to start finding bits of Sprint promotional material soon, hopefully putting the question of the phone’s name to rest.
