According to Telecom Pragmatics analyst Sam Greenholtz, the iPhone 5 which is rumored to debut some time this summer will not be an LTE 4G phone. He says that the next model in line, the iPhone 6 will bring LTE support. It is now under development, and aimed for launch in June or July of 2012.

Apple and Verizon were contacted for comment, and had “nothing to announce”. The iPhone 5 is expected to operate on AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network, and Verizon’s 3G network. It is rumored to include a larger four-inch screen, dual core processor, and eight-megapixel camera.

Tero Kuittinen, an analyst for MKM Partners, says that Apple probably didn’t foresee this level of hardware competition when they locked in the iPhone 5 specifications. It is too early for any detailed specifications on the iPhone 6 beyond the rumored inclusion of LTE.
