If you use your Android-powered phone as a navigation tool you may be interested in a new app announced at MWC called ROUTE 66 Maps + Navigation, which is coming soon to the Android Market.

One of the easiest ways to get somewhere that you haven’t been before is to follow another person who knows where they’re going. That’s not always realistic in real life, but what if an app could essentially do the same thing? That’s one of the things that ROUTE 66 Maps + Navigation does using your phone’s camera. This allows the app to present an augmented reality view of the road ahead, complete with a car superimposed on the display for you to follow.

Unlike more basic offerings from other companies, these cool features won’t come free. Though pricing has not been announced, basic access to maps will reportedly be free, turn-by-turn navigation will be a premium feature, which can be purchased via the in-app store — hinting that the app won’t be released until this feature is enabled by Google later this year.

You’ll be able to buy a “navigation license” in 30-day, 1-year, and lifetime are available for 30 days, one year and lifetime. The app is compatible with Android 2.1 and later.
