Upcoming Waze Widgets Predicts Traffic, Commute Time
Waze is a cross-platform, crowd-sourced maps and navigation app that lets others know about traffic conditions, construction, road hazards, and all kinds of other stuff via information reported by people who traveled your route before you.
We recently learned of a feature that should be coming to the app in the coming weeks that may help shave a substantial amount of time off your commute! To accomplish this, Waze will be releasing an update that will include an Android desktop widget which will report the estimated time required for your morning or evening commute. The widget will also give you one-tap access to launch the app and input your destination, which will save you some time as well.
What really impressed us was the new “commute time” chart which plots out your expected commute based on current and historical data — depending on when you start driving. They emphasize differences in driving time with red, yellow, and green color-coding to help you know when to leave. Essentially, the app will tell you when it’s a good time to leave, and when it’s not, allowing you to plan your schedule to either leave earlier or later to optimize your driving time. Very impressive, and all from the widget!
