PlayOn App Brings Netflix, Hulu, More to Android

Tired of waiting for Netflix to get an app in the Market? Frustrated with Hulu blocking Android from being able to watch its shows? If so you’re not alone.

PlayOn fixes that for you — sorta.

PlayOn lets you watch your favorite shows and movies on-demand on your Android phone. The app is free, but it doesn’t work alone. You must also have the PlayOn Media Server running on your internet connected desktop pc, which you can’t buy. Rather, that part requires a subscription of US$39.99 for the first year plus $19.99 each year thereafter, or $79.99 for life.

If you’re willing to fork out the money and jump through the hoops you’ll have access to a growing list of “channels” including Hulu, Netflix Instant Queue, Comedy Central,, CNN, CBS, ESPN, ESPN3,, SpikeTV, The Ultimate Fighter, Amazon VOD, TBS, BET, Adult Swim, Oprah Winfrey Network, Nick, PBS, PBS Kids, MTV, Vevo, and more.

We’re not so sure that the media providers are okay with this “work-around” and suspect they’ll probably find a way to defeat it, but for the time being, let the streaming video begin!
