Nokia to Wait for Mango Update Before Making WP7 Hardware?
The love affair between Microsoft and Nokia might not be yielding any actual devices for quite a long time, if Guardian UK is right. Stephen Elop of Nokia has been particularly vague about establishing clear release dates for Nokia hardware running Windows Phone 7, only remarking that they’ll be selling their first new devices in 2011, with a huge bump up “in volume” in 2012. The next version of Windows Phone 7, to be know perhaps as version 7.5, is going to bring significant changes to the platform to make it more competitive, like a new IE9 browser, fast app switching, Twitter integration, and Office document storage in the cloud. The timing of Mango is known to be late summer or early fall, which would be a good time for Nokia to jump into the arena, with the holiday season just around the corner. We’ll have to see if Elop becomes more clear on his company’s timeline to release its first Windows Phone 7 device, but right now, all signs point to late Q3 at the earliest.
