AT&T Samsung Captivate Gets Android 2.2 Froyo?


Now that Google has released Gingerbread for smartphones and Honeycomb for tablets, AT&T has finally gotten around to releasing a Froyo update for the Samsung Captivate! It sure has been a long time coming, but the day is finally here — well, almost.

For a short while an FAQ page was posted at detailing the Froyo update. From what we can tell it will not be an over-the-air (OTA) update, rather, it will require the use of the Samsung Kies Mini software and a computer to apply the update to your phone.

While this method isn’t as convenient and means that many may opt not to jump through all the hoops to install Froyo, it’s progress! Froyo has significant advances over Android 2.1 that make the process well worth your while.

Unfortunately, as soon as we were able to get this information to you, Samsung (or AT&T) apparently pulled the plug on the FAQ page. We’ve linked to it anyway in the hopes that it will be back soon. Regardless, we think this is likely indicative that the Froyo update for the Captivate will come sooner than later, and possibly within the next few days!
