Sony Ericsson MK16: Xperia Neo Pro?
Sony Ericsson appears to be working on a new phone with model number MK16i, which is rumored to be a version of the Hallon (a.k.a. “Vivaz 2” and probably branded as Xperia Neo) with a keyboard. So far the only thing we know about this device — other than the fact that it bears a very similar model number to MT-15i Hallon — is that it features a six-megapixel camera (or is testing at that resolution, at least), the same as Hallon. Japanese site Blog of Mobile!!! is reporting that MK16i goes by the codename Iyokan, which Wikipedia describes as a popular Japanese citrus fruit.
MK16i’s only Picasa-uploaded photo is pictured above. The “i” stands for international; a US version would be called MK16a.
Sony Ericsson is widely expected to reveal its so-called PlayStation phone — probably dubbed Xperia Play — in less than two weeks at Mobile World Congress, along with other unknown Xperia-branded handsets. Neo is likely, as is a phone known as Duo; both of those terms went through the European trademark office at the same time as Xperia Play and the recently-revealed Xperia Arc (formerly known as Anzu and X12). So is MK16i going to be known as Duo? We suspect not: our guess is that Duo will be SE’s first dual-core smartphone. Following the company’s usual naming conventions, we’d expect it be called the Xperia Neo Pro, although with the recent move away from the whole X1, X2, X10 trend, we’re not really sure where the manufacturer’s branding system is headed.
