HTC: Nokia-Microsoft Deal, A Validation Of What We’re Doing
The Nokia-Microsoft partnership the two companies announced yesterday dominated the news and generated quite a lot of buzz with a new OEM entering the Windows Phone game, and it’s not your ordinary manufacturer, and it’s not just an OEM.
HTC was the first among the Windows Phone device manufacturers to react via Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC for North America and Latin America, and the reaction is a positive one indeed. Acknowledging that Nokia is taking a similar approach HTC took, Mackenzie said that the strategic alliance is “a validation of what” HTC is doing. From the competition point of view, HTC is regarding Nokia as being “one more competitor”, and we all know competition is good for everyone.
About the platform, the HTC exec said that “obviously Windows Phone 7 is a platform we’ve invested tremendously on” and “we’ll continue to support that”. Well, obviously HTC didn’t have a remarkable year innovation-wise but who knows what they have in store for the second wave of Windows Phone devices. The Nokia-Microsoft partnership “broadens the ecosystem, which is good for everyone”, Mackenzie said. We need to sit back, wait for that first Nokia Windows Phone and see what it does to force other OEMs into “full speed ahead”-mode.
