Windows Phone 7 On Nokia Smartphones Happening? [Update]

Nokia is set to announce something big, a strategy shift, as soon as tomorrow’s event in London. With reference to this, Operators already made their stance public and, while worried about Nokia’s plans, they want Windows Phone 7 on Nokia hardware.

Two major publications are quoting a source familiar to the matters which confirms that Nokia Chief Executive, Stephen Elop, has been in discussions with both Microsoft, for Windows Phone 7, and Google, for Android, on Nokia hardware. While the Android bit is regarded as unlikely to generate a collaboration, everyone is pointing to Redmond as the maker for the next platform on Nokia hardware.

Nokia did not comment on the story but according to the publications, the Finnish manufacturer might announce the partnership with Microsoft at tomorrow’s event held in London, a partnership which would benefit both parties. Nokia is facing severe platform related problems — and a huge US market where its presence is lacking — and together with Microsoft, they could aim high for those two sweet spots currently occupied by Google and Apple. So, Nokia powered by Windows Phone 7?

Update: Vic Gundotra, Vice-President of Engineering for Google, has just tweeted the below. We don’t think he had Angry Birds in mind though! Jealous much?
