Sanyo Zio Pops Up with MetroPCS Branding
Kyocera’s Android-equipped Sanyo Zio is already available on two carriers (sporting 1.6 Donut on Cricket and 2.1 Eclair on Sprint), and now a new image has emerged of the 3.5-inch, WVGA device bearing MetroPCS branding. As is often the case with these leaks, however, it’s not actually clear what the fifth-largest carrier’s intentions are with the handset. The 600MHz-powered Zio, with its CDMA radio, is certainly suitable for the eight-million-subscriber-strong network, although not for its nascent LTE functionality (unless another unknown variant exists).
MetroPCS currently offers just two Android phones, the LG Optimus M (Optimus One) and Huawei Ascend, so there’s certainly more room for growth in that department. Supposedly the carrier will be stocking its first LTE-capable smartphone in the near future in the form of Samsung’s SCH-R910 Forte, an Android model with QWERTY slider and alleged five-megapixel camera.
