HTC Desire HD Keyboard Extracted for Use with Custom ROMs
One of the draw-backs of installing a custom ROM on your device is that you lose all the “goodies” that came pre-installed with the factory ROM. Such is the case with the Desire HD’s keyboard. This input method has certain features (including multi-touch support) that add a lot of value over traditional keyboards.
If you’ve flashed a custom ROM onto your HTC Desire HD and want to get the HTC keyboard back, head over to XDA-Developers and grab the file. You’ll have to either flash it Recovery (it only works with RCMix HD App2SD+ v0.15), or unzip it and install the HTC_IME.apk file through adb. (If you’ve installed a custom ROM on your Desire HD, you should know what both of these options mean.)
I should note that this is not a port of the keyboard, it’s simply an extraction of the necessary files. In other words, if you’re not using an HTC Desire HD, this post is of little value to you as you cannot simply install the .apk on your device — but it’s still cool to know!
