Motorola Droid R2-D2 Hits Third-Party Retailers for $150

Ever since its debut at the end of September, Verizon’s special edition Motorola Droid R2-D2 (basically a Star Wars-themed Droid 2) has only been available directly through VZW — either online or in select retail locations. Now, four months later, the 1GHz, Froyo-powered slider is finally free of its Red shackles, going on sale at Simplexity-backed e-tailers such as Wirefly, and bringing a $50 discount to boot. Having started out at $249 on contract (after $100 gift card rebate), R2-D2 dropped to $200 before the holidays, and now it can be had for just $149; of course, that’s still somewhat pricey compared to the free Droid family members available through a number of authorized retailers.
