Tiered Pricing for Data Coming to AT&T LTE
While Sprint and Verizon were first to 4G (though don’t tell that to T-Mobile), we know that AT&T will be getting its LTE on in 2011, with a wide deployment next year. While we’re still quite a bit off from being about to rock an AT&T LTE phone, we’re learning a bit about how the company plans to structure its data plans for the new wireless standard. They will offer data tiers and speed tiers so that they can apply different pricing to different types of users. If you want the most amount of data and the fastest speeds possible, expect to pay the most. This is different than how they price for their 3G network, which is purely based on data usage. Since pricing for Verizon’s LTE network is still unknown, we’re not sure if what AT&T is doing is a good or bad thing.
