Apple’s New Thing Is Tamper-Resistant Screws; Oh No!

You’d think that Apple’s only efforts are focused on not having you hack your precious iPhone with a Jailbreak. It gets harder and harder for the Dev-Team to figure things out lately, and hey, it comes with the territory. The problem is when Apple’s new thing now goes beyond software, and focuses on not letting you tamper with your phone whenever needed.

You’d ask, well why would I want to open my iPhone. Surely, the dudes at iFixit make a living out of this, so there must be a long list of reasons why you’d want to. You either want different colors on your device, or just replace a broken screen if things went really bad yesterday. A friend of mine recently dropped his 3Gs, and the top latches that hold the screen slipped from the chrome ring, so he fixed it himself in a minute with a phillips screw driver.

The new type of Tamper-Resistant screws go from really weird formed screws, to Pentalobes you won’t find at just any hardware store, and you guessed it, at not just any price. Surely this will increase iFixit prices, and you might as well forget about doing things yourself soon once these new screws become a standard in Apple products.

I for one, understand Apple prefers that you come to a Genius Bar to get these things fixed, but my memo to Ol’Stevo, is: “Hey buddy, why don’t you open one of those bars in every country in the world where you sell the iPhone, and I’ll buy your new strategy”.
