Sony Ericsson Sues Clearwire Over Logo Trademark
Sony Ericsson starts the (legal) year off with a lawsuit directed against Clearwire for infringing its trademark. If you’re one of the people who are having a hard time making a difference between the two company logos above, constantly making a confusion between them, then you’ll be happy to read this.
Sony Ericsson is accusing Clearwire of gaining “unfair competitive advantage” by using a logo that the joint venture considers similar to its own. Sony Ericsson has trademarked the “sphere with swirl marks” in a couple of variations and is asking the Court to force Clearwire to stop using the logo as well as pay Sony Ericsson monetary damages. It didn’t seem to bother Sony Ericsson that Clearwire was using an allegedly similar logo until Clearwire stated that it’s considering stamping a couple of its phones (Samsung and HTC) with the logo above their own Clear branding.
