We’ve been looking forward to Samsung’s follow-up to its Galaxy S phone (in all its iterations) for some time now, expecting the phone to debut at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. It looks like Samsung’s found the venue it’s looking for, as the company has put up an announcement for a press event to be held on February 13, just before the MWC kicks off.

The notification suggests Samsung will reveal the next “evolution” of the Galaxy S at the event. The S 2, otherwise known as the GT-i9100, is projected to run a dual-core processor, and feature a bright, high-density Super AMOLED Plus display. Expect it to ship running Android 2.3.

While Samsung has other phones planned for various 4G services, could the S 2 be set to join them? Featuring “evolution” so prominently can’t help but conjure up thoughts of LTE. The word use may just be coincidence, but at this point in smartphone news, it’s certainly a loaded choice. We should know for sure one way or another in a little under a month; maybe sooner, depending on the content of Samsung’s teaser, coming February 1.
