Metro UI Launcher Attempts Android to WP7 Transformation
Despite all the cool launchers available for Android, it still can’t escape the inevitable onslaught of themes that mimic popular UIs of other platforms. In this case, Metro UI (beta) attempts its best Windows Phone 7 imitation as a launcher for Android. This is actually the second WP7 style launcher that we’ve seen in recent months, and were pretty sure it wont be the last.
As with the previously noted “Windows Phone Android,” the early beta of Metro UI launcher includes the vertically scrolling WP7 Start screen, as well as the ability to customize the theme (light or dark) and accent colors (blue, brown, lime, orange, pink, purple, or teal). Interestingly enough, the developer decided to go with a four column grid of icons for the apps screen, rather than the original list style like on Windows Phone 7. It also has some animated effects for the Start screen tiles and works in landscape orientation.
If you’re rolling with Android and want a hint of Windows Phone 7 on your device, you may want to keep an eye on Metro UI, which is currently available for free in the Android Market. Remember, this is an early beta and the developer stresses that it’s “far from complete.” Check out the demo in the video below.
