BlackBerry Torch 2 Pictured; 1.2GHz CPU, VGA Display?
The stream of BlackBerry leaks continues today, as the alleged successor to the BlackBerry Torch has been outed by BGR, following earlier reports detailing the supposed BlackBerry “Dakota” hybrid along with the next-generation Curve “Apollo.” Fortunately for RIM fans, the so-called Torch 2 (probably retailing as the Torch 98xx) seems to make up for many of its predecessor’s shortcomings, most significantly by allegedly boosting the CPU speed from 624MHz to 1.2GHz. While the display will reportedly remain at 3.2 inches, its resolution is said to have been increased from 360 x 480 to 480 x 640 VGA.
Besides the usual complement of radios and a five-megapixel camera with flash, the OS 6.1-powered QWERTY slider is said to support 14.4Mbps HSPA cellular broadband, along with quad-band GSM. Also supposedly on board are an NFC radio for contactless payment, digital compass, accelerometer, and 8GB of storage, double the original Storm’s capacity. According to BGR, a Q3 AT&T release is likely.
