Vizio VIA Phone Android Smartphone Sports 1GHz+ CPU?
After telling you Monday that Vizio is preparing to enter the smartphone business with the Google Android powered Via Phone, Engadget had a brief hands-on with the device.
Besides the 4-inch screen and 5-megapixel camera we knew about, we find out that the resolution used — 854 x 480 (FWVGA) — is similar to the one on the Droids. Also, according to Engadget, the device sports at least a 1GHz processor but no other information has been disclosed as per real frequency and maker of the chip. There’s also 4GB of internal storage, microSD slot, micro USB port as well as an HDMI port to make your life easier when playing back movies or pictures. There’s also IR support and an assisted setup which could turn the handset into a universal remote.
Software wise, the device is running Google Android but, due to the heavy UI customizations, at the moment we don’t know whether it is 2.2 Froyo or 2.3 Gingerbread. Considering that there might still be some time until this smartphone meets customers in person, we sure hope Gingerbread is the way to go!
The Via Phone has been designed by a team of under ten people with specialists from Nokia and other device manufacturers involved and you can watch the hands-on preview by following the source link (sorry, embedding disabled).
