New PlayStation Phone Hardware Has Xperia, PlayStation Branding

More pictures have emerged of the Sony Ericsson “PlayStation Phone,” and the hardware here seems to be a newer revision than previous leaks we’ve seen, judging by the Xperia and PlayStation branding now present on the handset. Notably, this particular device also happens to be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, although 2.4 Honeycomb is probably not out of the question for a March or April launch. The fact that the word Xperia is now front and center on the slide-out gamepad is yet further evidence that the phone will both be called Xperia Play as well as be introduced next month at Barcelona’s Mobile World Conference.

First revealed by the Wall Street Journal and exposed by Engadget, this model is said to sport a higher-than-WVGA resolution (which the new photos would seem to confirm — see close-up) and so-called Z-System architecture built for playing games which will possibly be available directly from the Android market. For a close up look at the older-gen hardware we’ve come to know and analyze for these past few weeks, check out the video embedded below.
