Sony Sues LG Over Patents; Asks For Blocking US Shipping

Sony has turned to the U.S. International Trade Commission with a filing against LG claiming the South Korean manufacturer has violated several U.S. trade rules by importing and selling on the market phones that infringe Sony patents and some of its licensees, including its Sony Ericsson joint venture, Samsung and Nokia.

According to Sony’s claim — also filed with the Los Angeles Federal Court — more than ten LG made phones, among which the Windows Phone 7 powered LG Quantum smartphone, infringe patents related to audio and microphone devices in phones, caller ID technology and transmission power. The Japanese manufacturer is looking for stopping LG from shipping smartphones to the U.S. while the South Korean company is not commenting, as part of a company policy that prevents discussing ongoing litigation.
