Samsung Teases US Galaxy S Owners With Hope of Froyo Update
If you feel like Samsung’s playing a game of keep-away with your Froyo update, we’d understand, as earlier today the company’s site changed its information on several handsets to indicate they’d soon be running Android 2.2, only to revert the edits.
The Epic 4G, Fascinate, and Vibrant – Galaxy S phones – were briefly listed as operating on Froyo; not “set to receive Froyo”, but currently running it. At first, it looked like another inadvertent leak, with some Samsung webmaster accidentally updating the site with information intended for future use. Now they’re all back to Android 2.1, with no explanation forthcoming from Samsung. While it’s possible that the company accidentally revealed a series of imminent updates, it’s looking more likely to be a simple typo.
The fact is, Froyo is available for Galaxy S models in Europe and in Canada, so why not the US? We’ve seen unofficial ROMs that upgrade the phones to Froyo, but no legit OTA updates as of yet. Sure, the carriers need to make sure the changes break neither the phones nor their networks, but we know there are plenty of Samsung customers out there who are getting a bit tired of the delays.
