Overclock HTC Touch Pro2 with WiMoSpeed

In recent months, smartphones with more than capable processors seem to be getting boosted with various overclocking utilities, but what about handsets with less firepower, like the widely released HTC Touch Pro2 and its 528MHz CPU? An overclocking tool would be a perfect compliment, along with software tweaks like CHT 2.0, in keeping the faithful Windows Phone relevant while users gauge the market for either a Windows Phone 7 or possibly an Android. We covered one such utility before, called Msm7kCpuSpeed, but that seemed to be more proof of concept than practical application, as it wasn’t very reliable when unplugged from a power source.

Enter WiMoSpeed, a new overclocking tool for the aforementioned Touch Pro2 that promises better stability and performance. Created by XDA member iwfratz, WiMoSpeed is actually the successor to his famed OCT utility. The developer notes that it “manipulates the values Windows Mobile uses for clock control, so it works reliably on battery and AC without any scripting or active components.” As you can imagine, TP2 owners are ecstatic and feedback among testers has been generally positive.

WiMoSpeed currently supports only the Touch Pro2, but iwfratz mentions that the Diamond2 (Topaz, Pure) is next in line to get the OC treatment. Mileage may vary, as some users are able to overclock to slightly higher values than others. On my Touch Pro2, for instance, I find that 748MHz is the sweet spot, while others can push it closer to 787MHz without encountering any issues. Pushing the device beyond these speeds will most likely cause it to freeze, at least for now. Visit XDA-Developers to learn more about WiMoSpeed and be sure to read the entire thread before testing it out.

Warning: tweaking with your device’s CPU may or may not cause harm to it. Use at your own risk and please take caution by reading all notes on the developer’s XDA thread.
