Samsung Intercept Froyo Update Rolling Out

Now that Android 2.3 Gingerbread has been released, Samsung’s Intercept is getting an update — to Android 2.2 Froyo. Since Samsung has had its hands on Gingerbread for quite some time now while they were building the Nexus S, the of this update is enough to frustrate not only Intercept owners, but owners of various Galaxy S phones.

Which raises another question: why is the Intercept getting a Froyo update before the Galaxy S phones? One could speculate that Samsung is going to just straight to Gingerbread, but that’s unlikely. What’s more likely is the fact that the Galaxy S devices all use Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, and the Intercept uses something much closer to the stock Android experience.

The update is expected to come in waves over the next several days. To try and hurry your update along open your dialer and key in *#*#CHECKIN#*#* to register your device with Google’s servers.

To hurry along the update for all you Galaxy S users, might I interest you in a custom ROM?
